A total of 167 women have now come forward accusing Dr. Barry J. Brock, a former Beverly Hills obstetrician-gynecologist, of decades-long sexual misconduct. The latest lawsuit, filed on December 27 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, adds new plaintiffs to an earlier suit involving 60 former patients. The women allege that Dr. Brock engaged in “sexually exploitative and abusive behavior” that spanned several decades.
Dr. Brock, 74, began practicing in 1979 and continued until his retirement in August 2024. He was affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center until 2018 and retained clinical privileges there until last year. According to the lawsuit, Brock was suspended in July 2024, and his hospital privileges were later terminated. Plaintiffs claim that Cedars-Sinai and other medical institutions knowingly concealed his behavior, allowing him to continue treating patients despite repeated misconduct.
The allegations include performing vaginal exams without gloves, fondling patients’ clitorises, using examination instruments inappropriately, and making sexually charged comments. Former patients describe the conduct as violating and inappropriate, claiming it occurred during routine medical procedures under the guise of care. The lawsuit asserts that Brock’s behavior caused long-term emotional and physical harm and that his actions were tolerated for years by the institutions where he worked.
The lawsuit explicitly claims that “Brock has been allowed to continue injuring, exploiting, and abusing patients under the guise of medical care at Cedars-Sinai from 1979 through August of 2024.” Plaintiffs allege that the medical institutions failed to inform patients of the risks, did not take timely disciplinary action, and enabled Brock by not intervening.
Dr. Brock officially retired in August 2024, shortly after his suspension. The lawsuit was obtained by the Los Angeles Times, which also received a response from Cedars-Sinai. In a statement, a hospital spokesperson said, “The type of behavior alleged about Dr. Barry Brock is counter to Cedars-Sinai’s core values and the trust we strive to earn every day with our patients.” The hospital confirmed that Dr. Brock no longer has privileges to practice medicine at Cedars-Sinai and stated that the matter has been reported to the California Medical Board.
The lawsuit is the latest development in a growing number of legal actions against Brock. Plaintiffs are seeking accountability not only from the physician but also from the medical institutions they allege failed to protect them.
