167 women have accused a Beverly Hills OB-GYN of sexual misconduct. What we know about the claims

A total of 167 women have now accused former OB-GYN Dr. Barry J. Brock of sexual misconduct, with a new lawsuit by 107 women adding to a previous one filed last year by 60 former patients. The lawsuits claim Dr. Brock, a long-time Beverly Hills physician with over 40 years of experience, engaged in sexually exploitative and abusive behavior under the guise of medical care, resulting in lasting complications for some women.

The latest complaint, filed on December 27 in Los Angeles County Superior Court and obtained by the Los Angeles Times, outlines disturbing allegations dating back decades. Plaintiffs claim Dr. Brock groped their breasts and fondled their clitorises unnecessarily during exams and procedures. He allegedly performed these exams without gloves—a practice listed as sexual impropriety by the Federation of State Medical Boards—and made lewd, inappropriate remarks. One patient reported that when she told Brock she was a lesbian, he replied, “Well, I can change that.” Another patient claimed he said, “Your down there is much dirtier than my hands,” when asked why he wasn’t wearing gloves.

Some patients reported lasting physical issues such as pain during intercourse or complications from post-birth sutures, allegedly performed by Brock without medical necessity. One woman, who saw Brock from 2002 to 2012, recalled expressing concerns about his behavior to nurses or other doctors, only to be dismissed and told, “That’s just how he is,” or, “Don’t put much on it.” The lawsuit claims that Cedars-Sinai received numerous complaints over the years, yet Brock was allowed to continue practicing.

Dr. Brock worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center until 2018 but maintained clinical privileges there until mid-2024. He also practiced at Beverly Hills OB-GYN and Rodeo Drive Women’s Health Center, both named in the lawsuits. Cedars-Sinai has stated it terminated Brock’s privileges in July 2024 after receiving concerning patient complaints, with final termination occurring a few months later. Brock officially retired from medicine in August 2024.
The lawsuit alleges that Brock’s recent retirement was timed to help Cedars-Sinai avoid public accountability. Plaintiffs claim the hospital and affiliated clinics knowingly concealed his behavior for decades and failed to inform or protect patients.
Cedars-Sinai responded by stating that the alleged behavior is counter to their core values and confirmed that Dr. Brock no longer has privileges to practice at their facility. The hospital has reported the matter to the California Medical Board and emphasized its commitment to its mission and the legal process.
