More than 160 women have filed lawsuits against Dr. Barry J. Brock, a former OB-GYN at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, accusing him of sexual abuse that spanned several decades. The most recent lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, represents 10 women identified as Jane Does. They claim that Dr. Brock sexually abused them under the guise of medical treatment at Cedars-Sinai and affiliated clinics.
The lawsuit adds to a growing number of legal complaints alleging that Dr. Brock engaged in a long-standing pattern of misconduct. Plaintiffs report inappropriate and medically unnecessary contact, sexually charged comments, and invasive procedures that date as far back as the early 1980s. Dr. Brock began practicing at Cedars-Sinai in the 1980s and continued until 2018, but attorneys say he retained clinical privileges until August 2024, when the hospital finally terminated his employment in response to patient complaints.
The women allege that Cedars-Sinai failed to act on repeated warnings and reports of misconduct, allowing Brock to continue seeing patients despite clear red flags. The lawsuit describes disturbing practices, including vaginal and breast exams performed without gloves, sexually inappropriate remarks, examinations conducted without chaperones, and procedures performed for cosmetic reasons without consent. Some women reportedly suffered long-term physical pain, and several said they were ignored or dismissed when raising concerns. Hospital staff allegedly downplayed Brock’s behavior, with some employees referring to it as “just how he is.”
Attorneys representing the plaintiffs argue that Cedars-Sinai and its affiliates continued to refer patients to Brock and did not inform current or former patients when he was suspended in 2024. The lawsuit outlines 17 causes of action, such as sexual assault, sexual battery, gender violence, negligence, and unfair business practices. It seeks compensatory and punitive damages and requests that the court impose oversight on Cedars-Sinai and related institutions to prevent future misconduct.
Attorney Sam Dordulian praised the courage of the women who came forward. “We applaud the courage of these women who were brave enough to speak out about their experiences in the hope of ending sexual abuse under the guise of medical care at Cedars-Sinai and elsewhere,” he said. “We are thoroughly investigating these claims to bring to light what occurred here and, hopefully, secure some form of justice for the victims.”
In response, Cedars-Sinai stated that the alleged behavior contradicts their core values. Dr. Brock no longer holds privileges at the hospital, and the matter has been reported to the California Medical Board. The hospital expressed its commitment to the legal process and its mission of community care.
