More patients sue Cedars-Sinai over alleged misconduct by OB-GYN

A new lawsuit has been filed against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and former obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Barry J. Brock by 25 additional women, accusing him of sexual abuse and medical misconduct. The lawsuit, submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges a “generations-long history of covering up” Brock’s abusive conduct, claiming Cedars-Sinai knowingly ignored or concealed complaints—even from its own employees such as nurses and medical assistants who served as chaperones during sensitive exams.

Dr. Brock, who practiced at Cedars-Sinai from the early 1980s until his clinical privileges were revoked in mid-2024, has denied all wrongdoing. He asserted in a public statement that he has “never done an inappropriate exam” and has “never touched a patient inappropriately or made sexually suggestive or harassing comments.” Brock was a member of the Cedars-Sinai physician network until 2018, maintaining hospital privileges until they were terminated following an internal investigation into patient complaints.

This new legal action follows a previous lawsuit filed earlier in the same month by 35 patients making similar allegations against Brock and Cedars-Sinai. In response to the mounting accusations, the hospital confirmed that it had reported the matter to the state medical board and emphasized that the alleged behavior was counter to its core values. Cedars-Sinai stated it remains committed to its “sacred healing mission” and the legal process must proceed.

The recent suit outlines disturbing accounts of Brock performing breast and vaginal exams without medical necessity. One pregnant patient alleged Brock told her the cervical checks “did not really mean anything, but that he wanted to do them anyway.” In defense, Brock claimed that all pelvic exams were medically justified, particularly for monitoring dilation in late-term pregnancies.

Additional allegations include inappropriate verbal comments. A former patient recalled Brock telling her during an appointment that she had “beautiful breasts,” clarifying, “I’m not saying that as a doctor, I’m saying it as a man.” The same patient alleged Brock sniffed his fingers following a vaginal exam. Brock denied both accusations, stating that the comments did “not sound like anything I would say.”

Several plaintiffs report that Brock made sexually inappropriate remarks about their bodies, sometimes while ignoring their medical needs or dismissing their concerns. The legal filings portray a pattern of abuse that was allegedly tolerated or ignored for decades within the institution, now sparking increasing scrutiny and legal accountability.
